Welcome to Studio 10A! We’ve had a lot of fun getting ourselves off and running. So “Hello” from Tom. Mike and Charlie!
This section of the website will be the place to find our news, views and new projects, so stop by often!
Even as simple a website as this, is is a big investment of time and work. Even though our friends at Pixelwork who built and maintain the site made it all a very straightforward and relatively simple process, going back through the files, choosing pictures, writing captions and building case studies seemed like a job that would never end. Pixelwork is a UK based company run by my friend Matt Harris that specializes in branding, web design & development, and it was a pleasure creating the site and working with his crew as we made our way through the process. It’s a sign of the times that the fact that they’re based in London made little difference since with a combination of Skype, emails and BaseCamp they might as well have been next door.
From my point of view it was especially interesting to go back and get an overview of the jobs we’ve done over the years - one hesitates to put older jobs into the portfolio, but I think some of them stand up well over time, some just remain favorites because they’ve been successful designs, and others are included just because they bring back good memories. I hope if you get a chance to go through some of the projects that you’ll enjoy what you find. And we’d love to hear any feedback if you think we could improve something about the way the site works.
The basic idea behind Studio 10A is that it’s all about design. Over the years with Atomic it’s been about design AND build, Studio 10A is about design and prototype -that’s why we did this, to position ourselves primarily as show and environment designers and to continue to develop the products that so far we’ve conceived primarily for the rental market, Now we want to take that further by designing a wider range of productions and come up with more products that are aimed not just at theatrical and event rental, but are destined for interiors, architecture and the wider world.
We’ll begin by taking some of the rental “hits” like the Wafer Wall and producing versions that are purposed for permanent or semi-permanent use, and then continue to develop ideas like the Flat-Pack Wall that would work better as a purchase than a rental. Things that a TV studio might hold in stock on site and be able to offer a client an instant background at the drop of a hat. Looking forward we’ll still be aiming to come up with more additions to Atomic’s line of rental products, but we’ll also be open to working with other companies and producing products that will work for them. We’ve already already partnered with Rosebrand, and we’d love to work with more clients to fill a specific need.
Hopefully this is the beginning of a new and successful chapter that builds on what we’ve done at Atomic, and starts off another train of ideas and projects. So please call, please visit and bring us stuff for us to do! We’re ready!
