It might have been the same venue, but you couldn’t think of two shows more different than Soul Train Awards and Celtic Woman. Where everything had been soft, feminine and dreamy, we were now installing urban brash and awe. What they had in common was soul, but it was very different soul from very different planets, and what completed both sets was lighting. Here Otis Howard added dynamism, matching our video looks and our minimal stage with a constant barrage of iconic settings. Looking back at the show pictures I’m thrilled to see the set looking so different throughout the show, we built a video look for every song, and what I’m most proud of is that we only used the MBox’s internal library a couple of times, and that simply because of last minute changes to the running order, where the look we had just didn’t quite work for example for a performance that now had a slower tempo than might have been anticipated. The core show looks were fed by the show graphics, Kesime Bernard and her guys at Manhattan Born came up with a fabulous starting point which we ran with, we animated the Train, and created content that mirrored their show packages.
