SummerSonic 2010

The indoors portion of the annual SummerSonic Festival in Tokyo takes place in Makuhari Messe a huge conference and exhibition complex near Chiba.  Stages and public areas are set up in the vast, somewhat faceless exhibition halls, and our brief was to come up with scenic elements that would give each of the stages their own identity.  The idea was that these elements would transform the room but the stage itself would be left as an empty canvas for lighting or for the band if they chose to, to bring their own scenic element to the party.  As well as the stages we also designed and installed hundreds of pinwheels that lined the approach ways to the outdoor stadium nearby which is also part of the festival.
